Access Statement for Brunswick Guest House

 

 

Introduction

The guest house is situated in the heart of Ventnor offering 4 letting rooms. Pictures can be seen on our web site: www.brunswickhouseweb.co.uk. The rooms are housed on the first floor of a three storey house which is at least 170 years old. The rooms themselves have been created and developed in a contemporary style however there are steps up to the front door, and to the rooms which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

 

Pre arrival

  • We are located on the one way system as you come into Ventnor, opposite the old church.

  • There is easy access to all the shops located in the town centre, but to get to the esplanade requires a walk down a very steep slope; however there is a bus which goes down to the esplanade (summer time only) and  a car park on the sea front plus parking places on the esplanade.

  • The nearest railway station is at Shanklin approximately 4 miles away. It is served the number 3 bus to Ventnor and there are taxis.

  • There are many buses which can take you directly to destinations around the island. All the Ventnor buses stop in Albert Street and the High Street which is less than 100 yards from the guest house.

 

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • We do not have a  24 hour reception and our check in time is between 1630 and 1930 hours; however, in exceptional circumstances we may be able to arrange for someone to be available to receive you. This service is dependent upon you speaking with us in person and there being an available person to receive you.

  • There is on street parking for which there are no restrictions for disabled users. For those without the blue badge parking is free from 6.00pm until 8.00am the following day. These restrictions apply only from 1st May until 30th September each year. Out of season parking is free and unrestricted.

  • Tourist parking permits can be obtained using www.paybyphone.co.uk, "park now" and  the code 71000. These permits allow unlimited access to the vast majority of council run park parks, at least 3 of which are within 100 yards of the guest house. There is a cost for these permits.

  • Guide dogs are welcome

 

Main Entrance and reception

  • Access is from the pavement and up six steps to Brunswick House.

  • There is no main reception but guests seeking help or advice can usually reach us by either ringing the guest house number or ringing the doorbell at Brunswick House

  • The front door is locked but guests with keys have unrestricted access to the house and their  rooms.                                                                                                                        

Public Areas

Brunswick House occupies the first two floors of the building and is for B&B guests only. There is a lounge which is open to guests at all times and a dining room with large dining table that is open for breakfast.

It should be noted that this is an old house with uneven and sloping floors. Most of the doors are a standard width, i.e. approximately 80cms. However because of movement over the years they are not all consistently this width throughout their length.

 

Additional Information

  • Ventnor currently has no facility for digital radio

  • We have TVs with Freeview in the bedrooms

  • Mobile phone reception is variable. The owners use Orange without problem in Ventnor however to the west as far as Blackgang Chine reception of any mobile phones can be variable.

  • In the event of evacuation guests must exit the property and assemble in the car park next door if safe to do so, otherwise guests must make their way to the decking area and await instructions. Call points and fire alarms are in place and working. If you hear the alarm you must leave the building at the nearest safe exit.

  • Smoking is NOT allowed anywhere in the building, however the smoking is allowed in the external communal areas
